alchemine: (sherlock bars)
I just recced this Sherlock story to someone on my flist (hi Beth!), but I liked it so much that I want to share it with everyone else too.

The World on His Wrist

I followed a link to this last night and ended up reading for the next two hours, I was that hooked. The basic premise is that during the first series, John is living in four different realities, including the canon one; they're a little bit out of sync in terms of timeline, so he keeps trying to use his knowledge of coming events gained in this universe to help the AU!Sherlocks - who don't know him - and stop people from getting killed. It sounds crazy, but it totally works, plus if you (like me) are not normally a fan of AUs, it has enough non-AU in it to make it feel firmly grounded in canon. I kind of want to go back and watch the first series through the lens of this idea now, if that tells you anything. :)

Anyway, it's quite a long story - six parts plus prologue and epilogue, all of which you can find through the link above - but well worth the time. Mostly gen, but with a strong element of John realizing that he's not as straight as he thinks.
